Here you go.....

Blogs Blogs...... Blogging everywhere.. ohhk i have to confess that this is the very first reason made me think about having a blog to write once in a while if not often. it was in 2007 that I've created a blog for myself but didn't post for no valid reason then. i have no reason to post as well.

i had this idea of blogging for long time and it goes in and out of the Dustbin for obvious reasons. that's nothing but my bad habit. i told my friend about my habit of procrastination. yeah it helped ,his suggestion worked and i am posting for the first time.... but what to post about ???? !!!!!

I'm lucky. i didn't have to post something just for the sake of it .... got some stuff to churn on.The irony is that i am writing one of my experiences that dated 2007 again.

i was working in CCMB (Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology),Hyderabad in 2007 and it was without a doubt a learning experience for both scientific and non scientific reasons.

Coming to Scientific learning, one of those opportunities is to attend the regular scientific sessions every week. Apart from that , every now n then the researchers in CCMB invite scientists from other organizations for research talks. honest confession is that these scientific talks are not so easy to understand .

I did not remember in which month it happened but i'm sure it was in 2007, i have attended a talk by an invited scientist . Needless to say , a great scientist. i think it was Dr.Sankarnarayan of ccmb who invited this Structural biologist to CCMB for a talk. i tried to understand the entire one hour talk by him even thought my back ground has nothing to do with structural biology. though i have the basic concepts of X-ray crystallography , electron density map, molecular replacement ...bla bla bla...and protein structure, the talk needs some more to keep ourselves with the pace of it. he was generous that he tried to avoid intricate technical aspects and rather concentrated on the whole concept .yeah , whatever it is, the talk was amazing as i felt like i'm watching a Hollywood fiction. the reason is that the guy summarized the work he was doing for the past many years and excelled in that area like nobody else, i would say . yeah i mean it.

The talk is over and i was not completely out of that mood as that was the best structural biology talk i had ever attended. that was the impact of the talk and the extensive work he had done and been doing. one obvious thought that strike me was

is he short of something to get a Nobel ?? ”

if not , why didn’t he get it till now ??.

But then i laughed at myself for this kind of immature thinking and judging about the prestigious Noble prize just by attending a research talk. also , i knew how good is my knowledge about the Structural biology and even scientific research as such. i know i was too young ( in science)to judge anything .

Though, i have attended hell number of talks of such kind in CCMB, this was one of few that made an impact as much that after two years i remember his name, organization and the place he has come from.

After the talk my friends Kiran , sudhir and me were chatting while sitting on a bench beside the workshop. that was our favorite place as when ever we meet ( mostly after the lunch) we used to talk all non sense possible. the bench is exactly placed in the campus in such a way that all CCMBites after lunch , walk though the road in front of it , to enter the main building. and you know it , thts the time we among ourselves make comments on the people going on the road.

Ohhk , Back to the scientist now. while we are on the bench , this invited scientist is walking on the road and interested people gathered around him for discussions. Dr.Sankarnarayan (one of the best of CCMB, a structural biologist) and his group members are around him and they were in discussion. my friend Kiran is working with Dr.Sankarnarayan , so i was teasing him that “why dont u join the group and interact with that guest scientist”. yeah Kiran is no way interested as he thinks he has nothing to talk scientific with that scientist.

Ohhk.... why am i writing this after two year gap and getting nostalgic about the talk which is just one of a bunch that happen in CCMB. i wrote it because i heard his name again today and its a proud moment.

The scientist is from MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, England. His name , i still remember very well , is Dr.Venkatraman Ramakrishnan ( Venki Ramakrishnan)

Yeah , he is the one i am writing about all the way in my very first post of this blog.

Happy to know that the 2009 Nobel prize in Chemistry is announced for our Venki. Jai Hoooooo!!

I am happy that i didn’nt have to search for a topic for my first posting. it was inadvertent. i wrote it just like that..........

P.S : Since i keep on delaying my idea of blogging as i have a great fear of my writing ability, i have asked my friend .The simple suggestion of my friend that helped me finally to start blogging is " Just start a blog and start writing what ever u want , you will learn how to write by practice "

Thanks to Kalyan for that.
